Frequently Asked Questions
Legacy by Design: Frequently Asked Questions
- What is planned giving?
Planned giving is a thoughtful and meaningful way to support Mount Vernon through your will, trust, or estate plan. These future gifts help sustain the mission of our school for generations to come without impacting your current finances.
- Why should I consider a planned gift to Mount Vernon?
A planned gift ensures your legacy lives on at Mount Vernon. It’s an opportunity to reflect your lifelong values and commitment to education while helping the school grow, thrive, and serve future students. Your gift, regardless of size, can have a transformational impact.
- Do I need to be wealthy to make a planned gift?
Not at all. Planned giving is for everyone. Many donors leave a percentage of their estate, a specific dollar amount, or even name the school as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy—every gift matters.
- How will my gift be used?
Unless you specify otherwise, your gift will support the school’s highest priorities at the time it is received. You may also choose to direct your gift to an area that matters most to you, like scholarships, faculty development, the arts, athletics, or innovation.
- Can I choose how my gift is recognized?
Yes! You can remain anonymous or choose to be honored as a member of our Legacy by Design society. Recognition helps inspire others to make a lasting difference, just like you.
- Do I need to tell the school if I’ve included Mount Vernon in my estate plan?
While you are not required to notify us, we encourage you to do so. Sharing your intentions allows us to thank you, welcome you into the Legacy by Design society, and ensure we understand your wishes.
- How do I get started?
Speak with your financial advisor or estate-planning attorney to include Mount Vernon in your plans. We're happy to provide suggested language or meet with you to explore your giving goals.
